I’m guessing you already have an idea of what this post may be about just by looking at its title, yes, I’m quitting Sunny Side Anime Blog, but I just haven’t given up on writing about anime yet. I just can’t bring myself to write for this blog anymore and honestly, the reason is pretty lame: I just don’t want to…Well, it’s probably more complicated than that. Continue reading
Allow me to be a little informal in my writing here, I really wanna make sure this message comes from the heart. You know, when I first started this blog, I had this grand vision of what I would hope it would become one day. I imagined myself discussing anime, manga and video games, reviewing anime figures, covering conventions, hosting a web comic created by a personal friend of mine, featuring great artists, musicians and other talented people, and talking about the relevant issues related to anime. Now here we are a year and so later. I haven’t really done a lot of what I thought I would be doing. Sure, I’m always doing a few anime per season, I’ve been reviewing any figure I could get my hands on, and I’ve been going to conventions and taking photos but what happened to the others? I believe that for the longest time since I started blogging, I’ve been fixated on one thing which ended up holding me back: myself.
I’ve always been so focused on what I think. What anime I like, What I think of the conventions I go to, Which figures I recommend people to buy. It was always me, me, me. Then I got to thinking: Who the fuck cares about me? When I think about it, if the universe was a desert, I’d be this tiny grain of sand barely any different from other grains of sand. I am only a tiny, insignificant fraction of this world. In that sense, this whole time, the blog has been only discussing that which is insignificant.
The truth is, there are all sorts of people with interests similar to mine who can probably share something amazing. Artists, musicians, writers, photographers, cosplayers or simply people with an interesting opinion. There are other grains of sand in this desert and now, I’m interested in finding them. I want to discover more about anime and the people who enjoy it.
With that, I want to renew this blog’s vision. I want Sunny Side Anime Blog to be a place where people can share and find all sorts of great things with others who also enjoy anime and its culture. I want to get to know artists, photographers and cosplayers whose works I would gladly share on this site. I want to talk with people who have interesting ideas and opinions on anime. Sunny Side Anime Blog isn’t going to be a one-man show anymore.
So these are the things I’m going to have to do to achieve that vision:
Discover – I’m running around the internet looking for blogs with interesting content. I’m going to try to meet new people. Next time I go to a convention, I’m going to try to talk with the artists and the cosplayers to try to get to know more about them and see if they’re interested in sharing their work with me, and in turn, with others. Now that leads me to my next course of action…
Promote – I’m going to take what awesome things I find and feature them on this very site. I want other people to know and support that which I think deserves the recognition. Whatever I find on the internet and in conventions, I’m going to encourage other people to check them out as well. Sunny Side Anime Blog also has a Facebook page. There, I want people who subscribe to the page to be exposed to a lot of the cool stuff I want to find, but at the same time, I want them to share what they do and what they find as well. To make that work, I really have to promote the Facebook page now and make sure that it reaches people.
Talk – I’m gonna keep doing what I do best and that’s go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about what I find interesting. This time, though, I want others to talk back. I firmly believe in the exchange in ideas that goes on in a conversation. There are things that I might not know, that I could learn from other people who talk to me. In the same way, my words can possibly change the way some people see things. I really want to get into this sort of influence so I’m really encouraging anyone to speak out on the things I put on this blog.
I’ve still got a long road ahead of me, but it’s a road I’m really looking forward to take. This isn’t a road I’m going to be walking on my own though. I’m going to reach out my hand to any traveller who wants to take this journey with me. Come.
